Post Double Crochet Potholder



Materials used:
Small amounts of worsted weight yarn in various colors
H hook

Special stitches used:

Front Post DC (fpdc)

  1. YO, insert the hook horizontally from the front around the post of the next stitch.
  2. YO and draw thru a loop - 3 loops left on the hook.
  3. (YO and thru 2 loops) twice - 1 loop left on the hook
  4. One Front Post dc made.


Back Post DC (bpdc)

  1. Yo, insert the hook horizontally from the back around the post of the next stitch.
  2. YO and draw thru a loop - 3 loops left on the hook.
  3. (YO and thru 2 loops) twice - 1 loop left on the hook.
  4. One Back Post dc made

Ch 31
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across – 30 sc – ch 1, turn
Row 2: sc in each ch across, ch 1, turn
Row 3: sc in each ch across, ch 1, turn
Row 4: sc in sc, *fpdc in sc 3 rows below (row 1), sc in next 2 sc*, repeat from * 8 times, fpdc in sc 3 rows below, sc in last sc, ch 1, turn – 10 fpdc

Row 5: sc in each stitch across, ch 1, turn
Row 6: sc in each stitch across, ch 1, turn
Row 7: sc in sc, *bpdc in fpdc 3 rows below, sc in next 2 sc*, repeat from * 8 times, bpdc in fpdc 3 rows below, sc in last sc, ch 1, turn – 10 bpdc

Row 8: sc in each stitch across, ch 1, turn
Row 9: sc in each stitch across, ch 1, turn
Row 10: sc in sc, *fpdc in bpdc 3 rows below, sc in next 2 sc*, repeat from * 8 times, fpdc in bpdc 3 rows below, sc in last sc, ch 1, turn – 10 fpdc

Repeat rows 5-10 for pattern stitch till design reaches 8 inches or desired length.

Edging: At end of last row, ch 16, sc into next st on next corner of potholder and sc into each st around all edges, with 3 sc in each corner. Upon reaching 16 ch loop, sc into each ch, sl st into next sc, fasten off.

Change colors as desired for striping pattern.
