Make a chain the length desired.
In 2nd ch from hook sc, sc in next ch, * 3 hdc in next ch, skip next ch, 4 dc in next ch, skip next ch, 3 hdc in next ch, sc in next 2 ch. Repeat from * to end. Fasten off.

Made slight modification to use with worsted & a G hook:
3 DC and 2 SC's
When you say length desired, Do you mean enough to go around the item you are adding this too? I am a bit of a newbie at crochet. I would like to try to crochet around my hand embroidered handkerchiefs that I make.
Any suggestions or advice would be lovely!!!
